A leading primary healthcare provider, The Practice, is today announcing the continued expansion of its secure health services. On 24 February, The Practice Services Limited (a subsidiary of The Practice Plc) acquired Drummonds Medical Limited. Drummonds Medical Limited is subcontracted by The GEO Group, a world leader in detention services, to provide healthcare services into two immigration removal centres; Harmondsworth, Middlesex and Campsfield House, Oxon. Secure health is an important speciality in a society increasingly concerned with security and public safety issues. The Practice is fast building a reputation for innovation in health services carefully tailored to the needs of these new realities. Designing secure health services that are cost effective and efficient for the authorities concerned while still being patient-centred is a challenge. Says Peter Watts, Chief Executive for The Practice: “Our goal is to provide patients in secure establishments with a range and quality of services comparable to those we offer at our community based surgeries and clinics. We have a strong track record of delivering GP services into prisons and detention centres and apply the same patient centred ethos to all we do.” The funding for the acquisition came from existing resources and marks the continued expansion by the business into the secure health market. Drummonds Medical Limited, as part of The Practice group, will continue to provide services into the two centres. During 2009, The Practice also won contracts to provide primary medical services for a further two prisons: HMP Winchester, Hampshire and HMP Kingston, Portsmouth.
