SURGERIES Dr Ajit Kadirgamar BSc MBBS Head of Training and Development
Dr Kadirgamar qualified from St Mary's Hospital Medical School in 1988 and completed his training in General Practice in 1993. His areas of special interest are child health, cardiology, dermatology and GP training and mentoring. As Clinical Lead for The Practice surgeries division Ajit is responsible for developing clinical strategy and the clinical workforce. He divides his time between this role and The Practice Prospect House in Great Missenden where he is both senior GP and GP trainer. OPHTHALMOLOGY Mr Nick Jacobs MB ChB FRCOphth Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology Mr Jacobs has recently joined us as our new Clinical Lead for ophthalmology. He is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon having specialized in high volume cataract surgery. In addition to cataracts he majors in the management of glaucoma; his experience in this area is invaluable in ensuring our compliance to the 2009 NICE glaucoma guidelines. Mr Jacobs has designed instruments and new techniques for cataract and glaucoma surgery as well as local anesthesia and he has published many papers on these subjects.
SEXUAL HEALTH Professor Clive Loveday Clinical Lead for Sexual Health
Professor Loveday has worked as a GUM Consultant in many parts of the country and currently provides support in the GUM clinic at Wycombe Hospital. He has also worked with the Brookside Clinic in Aylesbury assisting with the set up of nurse led clinics providing level 2 services. Clive has a special interest in HIV research and Virology at both national and international levels. Clive is enthusiastic about sexual health service provision and is ideally placed to provide clinical governance, leadership and clinical expertise.
Sue Myers Clinical Lead for Sexual Health
Sue has a wealth of experience in family planning and sexual health. She was awarded Sexual Health Nurse of the Year 2006 by the National Association for Nurses in Contraception and Sexual Health (NANCSH) for her innovative "condom cafe", a service which will continue to be supported by The Practice. She is also a qualified health visitor and is experienced in child protection, domestic violence and vulnerable adults. Sue is naturally able to reach out to younger people and this coupled with her drive and enthusiasm make her an ideal clinical lead.
URGENT CARE Dr Peter Petrie MBCHB DRCOG MRCGP Clinical Lead for Urgent Care
A GP for 23 years, Dr Petrie's special interests include genitourinary medicine, psychiatry and medical training development. He is the author of numerous reports on the delivery of urgent care in acute trusts and PCTs nationwide and a lecturer for the Improvement Foundation in Urgent Care. His previous roles include PCG chair and Primary Care Trust PEC member. Dr Petrie was among the first to see the potential gains in admission avoidance and demand management by attaching a GP to Urgent Care - and has had five years' experience of working with and within A&E teams to achieve these aims.
SECURE HEALTH Dr. Horst-Dieter Haas, MAeN, MBDA, GPwSI (substance misuse RCGP) Clinical Lead for Secure Health Dr. Haas qualified in 1984 in Hannover and brings to The Practice over 25 years of experience as a GP. He has been working in substance misuse since March 1992 and is highly experienced in this demanding and difficult area of medicine. His enthusiasm and wide field of expertise makes him an ideal Clinical Lead in this important health care environment. Dr. Haas is married with 4 grown up children, is a keen jogger and loves sailing.
