These are challenging times for PCTs. Pressures for financial balance, increasing user demand, targets and service redesign are felt most strongly in the area of urgent care. A-E targets are increasingly difficult to meet with closure of wards and community services as well as changes in the GP contract. Practice based commissioning is hoping to address these difficulties but these groups are still trying to consolidate their roles. The Practice specialises in urgent care solutions, tailor made to the needs of the locality. We bring vast experience from our years in the NHS and also have access to some of the solutions that can be provided by the private sector. Our team, which consists of experienced GPs, community nurses and a former PCT nursing director can act as change agents or facilitators where relationships are struggling and a neutral perspective valued. We find engaging with all stakeholders and local workforce extremely valuable in identifying issues and appropriate solutions. We have to stimulate local involvement as any new development ultimately needs to be run by local staff with their unique expertise.
